Authentication Options

NetLibrary supports a variety of authentication options to provide users with seamless access to your NetLibrary collections. Some methods allow users to be authenticated automatically while others require user input (such as a library bar code). Choose the authentication method that best meets the needs of your users and your library.

  • NEW EZproxy Single Sign-On NetLibrary Authentication
Provides real-time user validation using your existing database. Users can log in with their library card or PIN and check out materials without creating a separate NetLibrary account.
  • IP (Internet Protocol) Address Recognition
Grants access to your NetLibrary collections by IP address. Anyone using a computer with a recognized IP will be authenticated automatically.
  • Secure Referring URL
Provides access to your collection from a secure, access-controlled page on your Web site or intranet.
  • Proxy Server
Use your existing proxy server to authenticate users. Once validated, users will be able to access NetLibrary eContent anytime, anywhere.
Which Authentication Options Work Best for My Library?

Review the chart below to help identify which method(s) work best for your library. The options can be combined to work both inside and outside of your library. In all the options, users can be authenticated whether they begin their search at the library's OPAC, NetLibrary.org or your librarys electronic resources page.
