How it Works: IP Authentication

Benefits/Features

  • Enables on-site access
  • Easy to set up for access within your location
  • Requires no input from the user—the authentication happens automatically

How it Works

Every computer connected to the Internet has an IP address (for example: 132.174.95.5). You can grant computers access to NetLibrary by specifying IP addresses, so anyone using those computers will be authenticated.

When to Use

This works best when you know the specific computers to which you want to grant access (i.e., within your library, campus or site).

Further Resources

If you need further assistance with authentication, please contact OCLC support at 1-800-848-5800 or support@oclc.org or contact your OCLC regional service provider. Customized options may be available in unique situations.
